A brief break

Ho Ho Ho!!! It's two weeks until Christmas y'all! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. Christmas is my favorite time of year. We've been busy around here visiting Santa, seeing lights, playing in the SNOW and so much more!

I know that I've been kind of MIA around the blog just popping in here and there. I've been so busy that during my downtime, I just don't feel like getting on my computer and blogging. I'd rather relax with a cup of coffee on the couch or watch a tv show in peace. I love this space that I've created and cultivated over the past few years, but I think I just need to take some time to step away and figure out the direction I want it to go.

I don't want it to just be an online diary of my life. I want to share my health and fitness expertise. I want to share my travel adventures. I want to share about my family and more. I want it to truly be the "balancing act" of my life. It's drifted the last few months because I haven't given it the time it needs.

All of this being said, I'm hoping to just take a brief break. I want to immerse myself in my family and have less worries over the next few weeks. I want to spend the holidays completely present. I don't want to worry about trying to get an awesome post up or creating something clever to bring my blog "back."  My plan is to come back with the New Year with a new plan and strategy. Sometimes you just have to step away from something to appreciate it!

Before I go, here are some awesome pictures from our adventures this past week. If you want to keep up with me over the holidays, be sure to follow me on Instagram!

Last Wednesday, we went an visited Santa with Ali and Renee! It's safe to say that both girls are not fans of Santa yet. It's okay though, Santa told Chloe that she's on his nice list and that he'll still come visit her. He even said that he'd bring her an Elsa dress and baby doll that she said she wanted! {Lucky girl!} He was an amazing and patient Santa!

On Friday we got SNOW! Y'all it hasn't snowed in Houston since December 2009. I'm not even kidding. It's been 8 years! It started Thursday night and we didn't think that it would stick because it was only supposed to get to 34 degrees. We were wrong and it stuck!!! It actually got below freezing and we ended up with about an inch and a half of snow.

We woke Chloe up early to play all morning! She absolutely hated it at first, but after she woke up, she loved it. She kept wanting to go outside and who was I to say no? We were in and out all morning and she was so sad when the snow melting and the snowmen fell down!

Friday night JP and I got all dolled up for his work Christmas party! We only got one picture from the night, but we had a great time downtown at B&B Butchers. Good food, good company and a nice night off!

Sunday morning I woke up for my long run and once again there was frost on the ground. No snow, just frost, but it made for a beautiful run! I got a very cold 6 miles in. I'm not used to running in the cold, but it's so much better than the hot, humid Houston air.

That's about all I have for today! We had a wonderful week and have been living life to the fullest. So for now, I'm saying goodbye to this little space. I just need a break, so don't worry, I'll be back! Like I said earlier, stay in touch with Instagram because I'll still be on there!

Hopefully I'll come back with a bang and a plan in January! So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year y'all!

Lions and Tigers and Dinos! Oh My!

Y'all! I have something super exciting to share with y'all today! If you know me personally or have been hanging around this blog for a while, you may know that I have a total obsession with dinosaurs. This past February, I got to meet a velociraptor at Universal Studios Jurassic Park. It was pretty fantastic and I have it on my Instagram if you want to take a peek! But yesterday, I didn't get to meet and see one dinosaur, I got to see close to 100!

A few months ago, Alison saw an ad for Jurassic Quest in Houston and sent it to Ashley and me in hopes that we'd be able to go. Sadly, Ashley wasn't able to join our trio, but I bought tickets for Ali and myself for Ali's birthday! To say that we had an amazing time would be an understatement.

We made the executive decision to leave the baby girls at home for a mommy date instead! It is quite possible that we were the only adults there without children, but I know that parents were having just as much fun as their kids. Dinosaurs are for adults too you know!

Around the arena there were tons to life size animatronic dinosaurs along with rides, games, picture opps, activities and shows. We got some awesome pictures...

The one below is a personal favorite of mine!

We got to snuggle up to baby dinosaurs too! I mean, how adorable are these tiny little creatures?

Speaking of baby dinosaurs, they had a baby dinosaur show where "handlers" walked around with baby dinosaurs that actually moved, played and interacted with the audience. You could pet them and take pictures with them. It was actually super cool! There were three baby dinos: a brachiosaurus (long neck), t-rex and triceratops. I don't have a picture with the t-rex, but I have an adorable video of him where he proceeds to take a bite at my phone. I'm kind of obsessed.

We also spent some time talking to the guy at the fossil table. He had some awesome fossils, claws and teeth, but even more awesome dinosaur information. Since we went earlier in the day, it wasn't very crowded, so he was able to really talk to us. We loved hearing his stories about archaeologists and fun facts about different dinos.

There was also a caricature artist there! The best part is that it was free! Of course we tipped him, but usually it costs like $15+ to get a cute caricature picture.

After the baby dino show, there was a walking dino show! We missed the first part and caught the end of the show and still saw one dinosaur. I got a pretty sweet selfie. I'm clearly happy to be hanging out with dinosaurs.

Around the arena you could also go on a fossil dig, create your own fossil and do dinosaur arts and crafts. All of these would have been perfect for our girls in a year or two. I think they're still a bit too young to truly enjoy it. There were also dinosaur rides, bounce houses, slides and more for the VIP kid package. Most of the area was free, but when I take Chloe in the future, I'll want her to be able to do all the fun rides.

Without the kids, we had the best mommy date learning about and seeing dinosaurs! Some adults may think that they're too cool for dinosaurs, but no one is too cool for dinosaurs if you ask me!

We had the too much fun, and did I mention we wore matching shirts? We're awesome. I know. If you ever have a dinosaur question, you now know who to ask.

Now that you've read about this awesome dinosaur experience, you're not going to want to go about your work today! Sorry for that. If you're now wondering how you can go to something awesome like this, check out where Jurassic Quest is heading next.

Have a wonderful Monday y'all. I hope this brightened your Monday blues just a bit!
