Friday Five: Boston Edition

Oh hello there! Happy Friday! I know you're probably thinking, who are you? What makes you think you can just stroll up in here and act like we're still friends?! I know. I know. I've been MIA for a bit. Let's just say that I've been exhausted and the last thing I wanted to do when I get home is be on my computer. But let's just push that aside and be happy that today I get to tell y'all all about Boston! What? Boston? Yep, I went to Boston with my hubby for our final weekend getaway of the year. So that being said, here's my Boston Friday Five!

one.  Blates!

JP and I got to Boston on Friday and did a little exploring before we met up with Jodi from Jodi Bean's Blog that night! I had actually met Jodi the first time last September when I was in Boston with my girl friends. It was so good to see her again! We pretty must caught up and chatted non-stop the entire night. JP tried to follow the best he could. I must say he's always a trooper.

We started with drinks at the Fairmont Copley Square's bar where I also got to meet Carlie Copley the beautiful black lab! The hotel was gorgeous and the Christmas decor was stunning. Then we headed over to Stephanie's on Newbery for a delicious dinner. Jodi and I both had to have the pumpkin ravioli and it did not disappoint! It was the most perfect start to our Boston get away weekend and Jodi gave us TONS of tips on what to do all weekend!

two. Fenway Park
A visit to Fenway was a must. I went with the girls last September, but I knew that JP would be dying to go considering the huge sports fanatic that he is. Needless to say, he loved it. We saw the field all prepped for freezing cold winter and all the boards were holiday ready. I enjoyed going on the tour again because it was still different then the original one I went on.

three. Freedom Trail Tour
We followed our Fenway Tour up with an outdoor walking tour of the Freedom Trail. As a history buff, I LOVED this tour. We even had a British Red Coat Soldier leading our tour. I think half of a tour's success is because of the guide and this guy nailed it. He was all the right parts of funny, raunchy, knowledgeable and awesome. He showed us little nooks and crannies of the city you may have never known about along with the big things like the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, Oldest Pub in Boston and a really famous graveyard. He also gave us great tips on what to do for the rest of the day. We took all of his advice and managed to see so much because of it!

four. Boston with Friends
We actually spent a good amount of time in Boston with our friends Rachael and Joe! We met up with R&J for brunch on Newbery at a restaurant called Cafeteria before going to Fenway. We did a little split for a few hours and they toured the Sam Adam's Brewery while we walked along the Freedom Trail. We met back up after our tours and explored Quincy Market, the pier, the North End and Paul Revere's house! We stopped for dinner at a quaint little Italian restaurant in the North End followed by cannolis at Mike's Bakery! Yes, we did Boston on Saturday. Our day was jam packed to the fullest and we were able to see so much!

five. I love Boston.
JP needed roughly 2850 more miles on United to get to gold status for next year. A few months ago he called me and asked if I wanted to go to Boston because he found cheap tickets and needed the miles. Of course I said yes! Last year, I said that I fell in love with Boston. This year, I fell in love even more. Seeing the city decorated for Christmas was amazing. For the most part, I didn't even let the freezing weather bother me too much. Okay, it wasn't freezing. It was in the 30s and low 40s, but that was cold for this southern girl!

I was able to see so many different parts of the city that I didn't see last time. I'm pretty sure I'll see more and more each time I go. Yes, that means I'll be going again. When? I don't know, but I know I'll find myself back in the city with so much history!
