That Pivotal Moment

I'm back to #blogtember with Jenni at Story of My Life! Here's what's in store for day 6.

Tuesday, September 10: Describe a distinct moment when your life took a turn.

Now I could easily go on to say how when I quit my job last month that my life clearly took a huge turn. But we've talked about that enough already. Yes, it's awesome. Yes, I am beyond proud of myself. And yes, it was a complete 180. Instead, let's take time back just a bit further. We're going to rewind to the beginning of my junior year of college...

...enter time machine warp...

...Julie and I had recently become friends. Really we didn't think think we would like each other and that being partners in LEAD would be a challenge. Turns out, we were wrong. After spending time together over the summer, we became quick friends and were finding we had more and more in common. Enter group exercise. Say what? Julie asked me to go to some step classes with her at A&M's Rec Center, so I did. Little did I know that attending a few classes a week would lead me to fall in love with group exercise. Then that would lead me to attend the Group Ex Instructor Training session in the Spring of 2008.

By the time I completed instructor training, I was so pumped to officially teach group classes at the Rec. I was completely in love with learning new formats and becoming more confident in my teaching skills. Of course, my the time my senior year rolled around, I was wishing that I was a Kineseology, Nutrition or some sort of health/fitness related major. Instead I was a year and a half away from completing an engineering degree. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about that. It's how my brain works, math, physics, I get it. But I wanted something different.

January 2009 - this is what Group Ex Instructors do when we get together :)

It was during my senior year after teaching more and more. Learning new formats to teach. Becoming involved in boot camp. I knew that I was going to be in the fitness industry. I knew that I would have to start small and that eventually, I would find my way.

And guess what? I did! I started small teaching at 24 Hour Fitness once a week. Then I had to stop when we moved to Pittsburgh. Then I picked it back up this year teaching step once a week and subbing strength training. Now here I am teaching 3-4 classes a week and studying for my CPT. Hopefully by the end of the month I will be a personal trainer, group exercise instructor and Pilates teacher.

Life is so good and I am so glad that I started going to group ex classes with Julie in August of 2007.

What was a pivotal point in your life?
Did you expect or anticipate the change?
