Spring Flowers, Sweet Ears and April Showers

Holey Moley TGIF is completely in store for this week! I seriously thought yesterday was Friday multiple times. It was quite the bummer when I realized this was NOT the case. But now it's here! Not only is Friday here, but can you believe that April is right around the corner? Just two days! Then it will be the month of Easter and my anniversary. Lots to celebrate. In honor of April and Spring being in full force, I have a few things to share with you....pics of b-e-a-u-tiful flowers around my part of town, pics of my floppy eared pup, and of course My Friday Fancies: April Showers with Alison over at {long distance loving}!

Lately it seems as though the only pictures on my iPhone are of all the beautiful Spring flowers blooming outside and of course, Little Miss Maggie!

I love a good rain boot and trench rain coat. I would LOVE a pair of Tory Burch rain boots, but my pink, black and white plaid ones from Target are perfect too! I went with a navy trench to match the navy in the rain boot and white skinnies since it's Spring! What do you think? Do you have any fun rain gear? A good trench rain coat is definitely on my list of things that I would like to have :)

Speaking of showers, it's supposed to rain a bit here today and it's looking a little foggy outside! Oh well, the weekend should be nice and I'm counting on beautiful weather on Sunday for the Shell Houston Open! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

One of "those" days

Okay I had an entirely different post planned for today, but I needed to vent. Have you ever had one of those days where it just seems as though everything is going wrong? Yesterday was SO that day for me. Not cool.

It started with a 4:50am alarm to wake me up for a 5:00am global call for work. Let's be honest here, no one wants to start working that early. Gross. Even worse, the call really didn't provide any value to me whatsoever. The best part of the day is that I did manage to squeeze a 4 mile run in after that early call. After the run, it went downhill from there. Work was less that stellar. That may be the understatement of the year. I don't know about y'all, but I do NOT enjoy doing other people's work and I do NOT like it when people in the office treat me like an incompetent child. Just saying. I ended up having a call scheduled during lunch, so I had to scarf down some food when I got the chance. I was supposed to get off work at 4:30pm (yes a nearly 12 hour day) to go down to Sugar Land to visit with my family. Well my call lasted until 5:00pm and there was no way I was going to drive from down town in rush hour traffic. So I did like any grown up woman would do and I called my mom and cried. Hard. That's a good way to get out my frustrations.

Around 3:00pm (the only hour I wasn't on the phone for work), I got a call from my husband. He got an e-mail about our taxes. It's not good. Not good at all. We expected to owe since we were bumped up a tax bracket from our move, but not this much. I'm talking thousandS people. Oh well, what can you do.

After I talked to my mom, I decided to go on a nice long walk with the pup. On this walk I got rained on twice (rain? it had been beautiful all day). When I went to pick up Maggie's poop, I managed to stick my thumb in it...GROSS. And, Maggie jumped up to say hi to a lady who was waiting at the bus stop.  Mind you, she did not touch this lady. She said to me, you need to learn how to control your dog before someone files a law suit. Really? I had control of her, she just jumped up. She's not even a year and a half old and she's only 40 lbs.  


Then came dinner. I was not in the mood to drive anywhere nor was I in the mood to cook. I was supposed to be having Curry Chicken with my family! So, of course, I heated up a bag of broccoli and sauted a few shrimp in olive oil. Tadaaaa! Thank goodness for broccoli. More importantly, thank goodness for the big bowl of ice cream I proceeded to eat afterwards. Sorry Lenten promise, it was medicinal...does that count?

Thank goodness I had this Tuesday's episode of Dance Moms and Monday's episode of Make It or Break It to cheer me up. Bed time was promptly at 9:30pm because I was ready for the day to be OVER.

Thanks for listening to me rant. I feel as though I am always so positive here because I truly am a positive person. However, I'm human and FAR from perfect. I hope that today is better than yesterday and that everyone else has a wonderful day as well!

Love and Pinterest

Okay bear with me my friends today's post is going to be kind of random. I had started a post for yesterday and when I went to finish it and put the pictures up, my computer was SO SLOW! Ugh I hate that. Slow computer + impatient Amy = No post yesterday. However, I digress. Today is about what I love and showing you my Pinterest finds. I'm loving my Norwegian sister Charlotte! Yesterday was her birthday and I can't believe she is 22 years old! I've known Char since she was 7 years old when she and my sister Emily became best friends, and she truly is a sister to me. While she was in high school, her family moved back to Norway, and she came to live with my family! See, she really is my sister. My bestest seester friend! Happy birthday Charizard! I love you to the moon and back. You mean so much to me and I am blessed to have such an amazing person in my life! Now get your little booty back to Texas to come see me!

I'm loving that today is my half birthday! Yay me :) I believe in celebrating half birthdays. I mean tomorrow I'll be closer to 25 than I am to 24...that's clearly a big deal!

I'm loving working from home on this sunshiny day! I got a solid 4.25 mile run in this morning and I'm sure Miss Maggie will get a walk or two since it's so nice out.

I'm loving Justin's Maple Almond Butter. It's not new news that I'm obsessed with peanut butter. Almond butter is even better for you because it's low glycemic index. I get mine at Whole Foods. Go try it, it's amazing.


I'm loving the weather we've been having in Houston. It isn't too warm just yet, but I have a feeling that it's getting too warm too fast. Looks like we're going to have another hot summer on our hands!

I'm loving that the hubs and I are going to the Shell Houston Open this Sunday! He was able to get free tickets from work and we're sitting in the club box at the 16th green. We'll definitely be walking around some too. I'm not the biggest golf fan, but I do enjoy it!

Making Mondays Motivational: Goals

Why hello Monday, I could have gone a few more days before meeting you again. Alas, you are here and I am back in the office and the gorgeous sun begins to rise over the freeway. Not a cloud in the sky...again...I don't think I saw one all weekend. At least the days are longer and I have a fun outdoor run/workout planned for this evening followed by a trip to the grocery store for some fresh foods. Come on 4:30pm!

How did your workouts go this week?

Last Week's Workouts
Monday: Camp Gladiator Boot Camp - 1 hour
Tuesday: OFF
Wednesday: 3.1 mile (5K) run - 8:54 pace
Thursday: 20 minute walk with Maggie
Friday: OFF
Saturday: 3.75 mile run - 8:36 pace
Sunday: OFF - I saw the Hunger Games and there is a lot of running in that! Does that count?

As you can see, last week was kind of rough for me. Tuesday and Thursday, the hubs and I did happy hour after work with friends, Friday we drove to North DFW, Saturday we went to a wedding and Sunday saw the Hunger Games and had to drive home! Busy, busy, busy. All in all, it wasn't the best workout week for me at all! I only logged 7 miles...ouch. That being said, I think it's time for me to set some goals and come up with a plan.

Setting fitness goals is very important. It gives you something more to work towards. Here are the fitness goals that I've come up with:

  1. Work out at least one morning a week. This will allow me to relax one evening a week. For the past few months, this has been easy because of boot camp. I did not renew my boot camp membership for this month, so I want to make sure I continue to work out in the morning.
  2. Work out at our office building's gym once a week. No need for a gym membership when you have free access to a workout facility at the office! 
  3. Run at least 12 miles a week. I usually run so much more, but I'm not currently training for anything. No need to do too much! This goal my increase in the future.
  4. Do at least 5 workouts a week...walking Maggie doesn't count :) That's just a nice little extra exercise!
  5. Eat less sugar! Only one dessert/treat per day.

These are my goals through April 30th. I needed an end date to make sure my goals were actually SMART and not just SMAR.

I'll be sure to update each Monday on how I am progressing with my goals, but I want to hear about yours too! What are your goals for the month of April? Go ahead and get a head start. No need to wait until April 1st to set them.

Happy Hunger Games Day!

May the odds be EVER in your favor! 

Seriously though, happy Friday and happy official Hunger Games Day! No I did not see the movie last night and not I'm not going to see it today or tomorrow. In fact, I will be heading up to the DFW area {Grapevine to be specific} to see two dear friends get married. It's supposed to be a gorgeous weekend...I'm so excited for them! That being said, today I have a HALF DAY at work! So many things to be happy about today :)

Now I know that my Aggies didn't even make it to the tourney this year, but they have the past few years! I've done my Friday Fancies just a bit differently this week. Here's what some of my Game Day attire might look like!


By might look like, I mean what it does look like! Whether it be football, basketball, baseball, I'm all about a good game day dress! I saw this dress above on Pinterest and knew that it must live in my closet...so...I bought it! You can see me sporting it in the top left picture! It's not a full body pic though and this is the best one I have in it! Hopefully I'll be able to get a better shot come 2012 football season! Oh and how about that necklace I found! So cute and would look great with a solid dress or tee!

I'm thinking about attempting to recreate this one for this football season! I'm loving the lace at the bottom!

Suicide Workout

Remember on Monday when I mentioned the Suicide work out? Well, I got some great feedback and I'm excited to share it with y'all! I wanted to title this post Suicides, but I wasn't sure that would go over so well. I added workout at the end to specify that even though you'll think you're dying, you won't :)

Now here's what you're going to do. Pay attention. Complete the first exercise in your set {Arms, Legs, Cardio} then complete the second. Before you can move onto the third, you must do the first and second again and add on the third. In order to move onto the fourth, you must do the first, second and third AGAIN and add on the fourth. So on and so forth. Do you see why it's called the Suicide Workout? It's similar to running suicide sprints in most sports/athletic training!

So here are the exercises. My husband was so sweet and took the pictures for me :) Try not to judge me or the puppy toys I have all around me!

ARMS
20 Squat to Shoulder Presses
15 Judo Push Ups
15 Bicep circles
20 Tricep dips
10 Side lunge and lift :: repeat on other side


Using weights, squat low, bring weights up to shoulders and press over your head for a shoulder press!
Start in a folded upside down V position with your weight in your arms. Lower your body similar to doing a push up. Make sure you don't hit your head!
Similar to the bicep curl. Start with arms ready for a wide bicep curl. Curl your  arms and rotate  hands as you lift. Circle arms around and out. Use your triceps to lift arms out to the third position. {You can do regular curls as well, these just work more muscles!}
You know the drill! Remember, the straighter your legs are, the more work you're doing!
Start with your feet together. Take a wide step out to the side and lift the arm  on  the same side as your straight leg.
Full body move focusing on the weight in the arms!

LEGS
20 Lunges
30 Pile squat pulses
10 Single leg bridges :: repeat on other side
20 Frog jumps
25 Narrow squats 

Just normal lunges alternating between each leg.
You can do these stationary by starting with you legs together and stepping forward into the lunge...
...or you can do walking lunges if you have enough space.
Make sure you dip low enough and step out far enough! Legs should be at 90* angles
Legs in a wide squat stance with toes pointed out.
Dip low and pulse. Don't come up until you're done.
Be sure to squeeze your glutes!
Lay on your back with feet propped and one leg extended as seen on the left.
Lift up using glutes, hamstrings and abs as high as possible.
Complete all 10 on one side and repeat on the other
Squat all the way down to the ground and jump as high as you can.
Great cardio/strength combo!
Don't laugh too hard at my jumping picture :)
Regular Squat with feet together.
Make sure your weight is in your heels. You should be able to wiggle your  toes.
CARDIO
80 Mountain climbers {quick count}
25 Little man jacks
10 Burpees
40 Lateral jacks
100 High knees {quick count}

Start with hands and feet on the floor. Alternate bringing your left and right legs forward.
Bringing one leg forward counts at 1 {hence quick count}
Go ahead and laugh, but I promise these work!
Similar to jumping jacks, but legs are bent at all times. This increases the work on your quads!
Burpees: you love them or you hate them.
Squat down, press legs out into plank position, jump them back in and jump up!
This is a fast motion.
The entire move is done in plank position.
Start with legs together. With weight in your hands, jump legs out and in - similar to the jumping jack motion.
Get those knees up while running in place!
Use your hands as markers to make sure you're getting your knees up high enough.
Each lift counts as 1 {Hence Quick Count}

Are you sick of seeing my face and bright blue shirt yet? I hope the pictures help. I know that several of the moves are well known, but I figured if I was going to do at least one, I might as well do them all! Let me know if you have any questions about any exercises.

You want to know one of the best things about this workout? You can swap moves. Change it up! No need to stick with the same thing over and over again. Add in new exercises to challenge your body. Don't have weights? No problem. Add in push ups and arm circles instead. I hope you try this out! You can do it at the gym, outside or in your home! No excuses :) Trying it out and let me know how it goes!
