finding peace among chaos

It's a busy time of year. Everyone running around frantically, trying to get in last minute errands, shopping for gifts and party supplies, making sure your house is decorated just so, and much, much more. This year let's go ahead and tack on taking down Christmas decorations, getting your house ready for the movers to come, packing for the 3 weeks we will be homeless, driving across the country and moving from Pittsburgh, PA to Houston, TX. Needless to say, it has added a wee bit TON of extra stress in the Gougler household. With all the stress and hustle and bustle, it's easy to get worked up over silly things and you forget about what this time of year is all about.

Christmas is about celebrating our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It's about celebrating his birth and renewing our faith. It's about rejoycing because His birth proves that good triumphs over evil. It's important for us to take a step back and find peace among the chaos. Jesus brings peace to our lives and focusing on Him {the reason for the season} instead of everything going on around us allows us find the calm. This is one thing I personally need to remember. I was SO SO crazy overwhelmed last night that I felt like I could just sleep for days just to escape everything around me. After a few prayers, a {long} moment of silence and some meditation, I was functioning properly again. Sometimes it's just about focusing on what's important like our faith, our family, our passions, etc. to bring us back down to earth.

During crazy times, here are a few things that I do to keep calm and find peace among chaos:
  1. Have some quiet time, by myself, to meditate and pray.
  2. Step away and take a break from what I'm doing when I get overwhelmed.
  3. RUN! This is honestly my number 1 stress reliever. Other types of workouts work as well.
  4. Yoga, by myself, with calming music. Relaxation at it's finest!
  5. Snuggle with my hubby {unless he's the one who is stressing me out :)}
  6. takes my mind off of what's bothering me
These are just a few of my techniques in no particular order. Stress and chaos is so unhealthy for your body especially during a time of year when we don't really treat our bodies as well {holiday meals, Christmas cookies, parties, all sorts of other holiday goodies!}. It important to find some "me" time to relieve the stress of the holiday season and to remember why this season is amongst us! Keep the Christ in Christmas :)

Tonight the hubby and I will be finishing plastering and painting the walls, loading up the car will everything we don't want the movers to take and making sure that all of our belongings are in the proper rooms! Almost there! The movers are coming tomorrow, we leave in 4 days and will be back in Texas in one week! Now, time to get to work! Talk to you tomorrow!
